Volunteering doesn’t need to be a solo venture. It’s something you can do with your friends, your coworkers, or in the case of Jennifer and Lindsey, with your sibling!

Jennifer and Lindsey are sisters who both volunteer as Coaches with our In the Lead program. They are dedicated, caring, and incredible individuals whose impact has resonated strongly – not only with the youth they work with, but with other volunteers, and our Program Coordinators.

Here’s what they had to say about volunteering as a family:

I love spending time with my sister, and I was thrilled that we could volunteer together, guiding and supporting each other as we show up for our young leaders and ourselves.

Sharing the volunteer experience with my sister has been incredibly meaningful. We’ve both experienced significant growth over the course of the semester, and, as cliché as it may sound, we’ve become even closer through this shared journey.

For those considering volunteering, I strongly encourage you to explore opportunities with In the Lead. The young leaders are kind, caring, funny, energetic, and truly inspiring individuals. I’ve learned a great deal and forged meaningful connections within my community through this program. The future generation appears bright, and the young leaders serve as a reminder of the goodness and brightness in the world. The coach training encourages reflection on your strengths and how you perceive others’ strengths. My sister and I often discuss how we’ve applied the skills from the training in both our professional and personal lives.” – Lindsey

Volunteering with my sister has been an incredibly rewarding experience as I have watched Lindsey model to her young leader kindness and empathy; two traits that I would say define her as a person. Throughout the program Lindsey has offered me support, advice, and wisdom, all while listening without judgement – attributes I see her model to her young leader.

We are passionate about restorative justice and wanted to make an impact with marginalized youth and decided to volunteer together. We are better together as a team, as Lindsey brings out my strengths and makes me a better person.” – Jennifer

Their experience goes to show just how rewarding volunteering can be. Whether you want to give back to your community, explore your passions, expand your skillset, or strengthen your personal (or familial!) relationships – volunteering has something to give to everyone.

We are so thankful for volunteers like Jennifer and Lindsey, and hope to see more families volunteering with us in the future!
